Enjoy a scenic walk along the boardwalk of Punggol Waterway lighted up by the glow of balloon lanterns on Sunday, 16 September 2012, as part of PA’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations.
This year, various Hobby Interest Groups formed by PA’s Grassroots Organisations together with the CCs, RCs and NCs will be showcasing their talents by displaying their creative artwork along the beautiful Punggol Waterway. Eco art interest groups will be creating lanterns and other art pieces from recycled materials while baking interest groups will be preparing mooncakes for residents to savour while they enjoy a relaxing evening with their families and friends.
PA’s reading clubs will also be conducting story reading and dramatisation sessions for both the young and the young at heart. Bring along your cameras as LED-lit sea creatures made from balloons will light up the area, providing stunning photo opportunities for participants.
The highlight of the event will be a lantern procession involving 3,000 balloon lanterns along the Waterway. Residents will have the opportunity to learn to make their own balloon lanterns and join in the balloon lantern procession. Free balloon lantern-making workshops will be conducted at the Waterway from 6pm to 7.30pm for the first 1,000 participants on a first-come-first-served basis.
Dr Janil Puthucheary, Grassroots Adviser for Pasir Ris-Punggol GROs will be joining in the celebrations with the residents. .
Mr Tan Chin Soon who is in-charge of a team of 30 volunteers from the balloon sculpturing interest groups said, “It will be a sight to behold to have the Punggol Waterway so brightly lit up by the balloon lanterns made by our volunteers. Through our common interest in balloon sculpturing, we have been able to bond and share balloon sculpturing ideas with each other. I am sure we will work well together to inject a Mid Autumn festive mood at Punggol Waterway.”
Come on down to the Punggol Waterway on 16 September and soak in the Mid Autumn atmosphere with your family and friends.
