Celebrating the National Day as one community

Didn’t manage to get a ticket to the National Day Parade this year? Come celebrate the nation’s birthday with your neighbours, family and friends instead at the many Community National Day celebrations happening around the island from now till end August .
With more than 180 special events and programmes organised specially for residents, by residents, you can look forward “to gather” and “be together” as a community and soak in the atmosphere while celebrating our pride at being Singaporeans.
From mass floor and block parties to record-breaking stints to National Day Observance Ceremonies and dinner get-togethers, there is something for everyone in this year’s Community National Day celebrations.
Over at Canberra, the Kampung Spirit will shine on National Day as residents come together to bond over food, drinks and hearty conversations at the 100 floor and block parties organised by residents and grassroots leaders. Residents will be treated to special performances put up by their own neighbours and friends. Residents can also look forward to other activities such as lucky draws at four hotspots where they can watch the National Day parade together as one Canberra community.
Want to witness a record breaking attempt? Head down to the Singapore Expo Hall 3 on Sunday, 29 July 2012 and witness how “Project Communi’BAKE 2012” volunteers attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the World’s Largest Cupcake Mosaic with 20,000 cupcakes. Organised by the Ayer Rajah Youth Executive Committee (YEC), this project bonds residents through baking and hopes to spread awareness about sharing and caring for the underprivileged in the community.
This year, the annual National Day Dinners held by grassroots organisations would have an added flavour. The Pasir Ris Punggol GRC National Day is one such example of a celebration with an arty twist. Over 5,000 residents from all walks of life, ages, races and estates are expected to be attending the dinner at Pasir Ris Punggol GRC. At the dinner, the residents will reflect on their journey in Singapore and their aspirations for the nation with tiles that will be placed on uniquely-created “HDB-like” structures and exhibited. There will also be performances by residents, including a fashion show, showcasing Singapore’s cultural diversity.
Come join us at the Community National Day Celebrations and celebrate our nation’s birthday together!
