Chingay!

Gear up for an exhilarating celebration at the Chingay Parade on 19 and 20 February 2010!

This year, Asia’s grandest street and floats parade will be held at the F1 Pit Building (next to the Singapore Flyer) where it can seat at least 120,000 each night. About 40 organisations and more than 5,000 local and foreign performers will woo audiences with local and international cultural performances from Bhutan, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan and Thailand. The parade will also feature a fiery firecracker dragon from Guangxi, legends of the various communities, a piano performance by local pianist Ong Lip Tat on the spirit of the Yellow River, and thrilling ladder acts by the PA Youth Movement.

For the first time, spectators can register on-the-spot and dance alongside 2,000 Chingay performers in a Samba segment. To add colour, involve diverse groups of people and anchor Chingay as a “People’s Parade“, about 350 colourful paintings depicting participants’ interpretation of Chingay will be hung on lampposts in the city from 23 January to 20 February 2010.

For those who can’t be at the main show, you can catch highlights of the parade when it makes its rounds in Sembawang, Nee Soon Central and Nee Soon East on 21 February 2010, Tampines on 27 February 2010 and Chinatown on 28 February 2010.
