Community Countdown Parties 2011 Performances by popular artistes like Singapore Idols, Taufik Batisah and Hady Mirza, stunning dance performances by youths, flea markets, ground activities such as balloon sculpting and face painting, and spectacular fireworks displays – come 31 December 2011, these are just some of the activities that residents can look forward to at the over 60 Community Countdown Parties islandwide organised by the various PA Grassroots Organisations (GROs).

The Countdown Parties, themed “Celebrating Happiness and Wellness”, provide residents with the opportunity to take some time off from their busy schedules to come together with their family, neighbours and friends to welcome 2012 and have fun as a community.

The various countdown parties this year are planned by residents for residents and they range from large scale events to more intimate ones organised by the Residents’ and Neighbourhood Committees.

This year, more than 5,000 residents comprising youths, new immigrants and members from the expatriate community will come together to say Hello! to 2012 at the Tanjong Pagar GRC & Radin Mas SMC Countdown Party – Hello 2012! Residents will get to hear DJ Andrew T, resident DJ at the Butter Factory, spin ‘live’ at the event, rocking the crowd with his happening melodies. Hello 2012! will also feature local youth indie bands, Eleventh Hour and Juz Members. These aspiring youths are not just any local band but they are part of PA’s vibrant interest groups. Residents can look forward to seeing MediaCorp Artiste Rui En and hear the familiar crooning voice of Singapore Idol Hady Mirza at Hello 2012!.

Over at Punggol East, youths have also put their heart and soul into organising the Punggol East Talent Mania II, a platform for residents to showcase their talents and get to know fellow participants. The Talent Mania II (Finals), which is part of the Punggol East Countdown Party programme, will be hosted by popular Mediacorp artistes Mark Lee and Lin Ru Ping. Into its second year, the Talent Mania II will see intense competition between the 10 outstanding finalists as they battle it out for the championship title. Residents will also get to enjoy other fringe activities such as a flea market and performances by Singapore Idols, Taufik Batisah and Hady Mirza. The highlight of the event will be the penning down of wishes and aspirations for 2012 on sky lanterns by the over 10,000 residents who are expected at the party,
