Giving, Caring and Sharing during Chinese New Year

What does Chinese New Year mean to you? Putting on new clothes, receiving red packets, enjoying festive goodies such as bak kwa or love letters? Besides looking your best and the festive indulgences, Chinese New Year is also a time of reunions with family and friends.
This year, PA’s Grassroots Organisations (GROs) are bringing the Chinese New Year spirit of giving, caring and sharing, and filial piety to the community through an array of Chinese New Year celebrations in the heartlands.
More than 400 festive celebrations have been planned at the heartlands, reaching out to over 100,000 residents and new citizens of all ages and races, across the public and private estates. These heartland celebrations range from Chinese New Year dinners to mini carnivals and even record breaking stints.
Many of the GROs have also extended a helping hand for the less fortunate to allow them to experience the festive joy and warmth from the community.
The Chinese New Year dinner at Nee Soon South on 28 January 2012 is one such event. Residents from the private and public estates involved in the Nee Soon South Hotmeal Programme will be sponsoring a sumptuous dinner to beneficiaries of the programme.
“I am happy to see that many residents are coming forward to organise these Chinese New Year celebrations for their neighbours and friends, including those who are less fortunate. Through such celebrations, we see residents showing care and concern for one another, making new friends and spreading the festive joy,” said Mr Yam Ah Mee, PA’s Chief Executive Director.
Want to make new friends and join in a Chinese New Year celebration with your family and friends in your neighbourhood? Look for a Chinese New Year celebration near you.
