This is the first time the People’s Association Family Life Section is partnering the Singapore Polytechnic’s School of Design to organise a games design competition to encourage family bonding and foster stronger family ties. The competition is open to all students from primary to tertiary levels, and attracted a total of 43 entries from 140 participants.
The youths were challenged to create board games with the theme of family. To better understand what would appeal to and help families interact in a fun way, youths gathered feedback and inputs from their family members. The Champion of the Tertiary Category, Mr Daryl Bong, 19, shared, “This competition is a great platform for me to spend quality time with my family as we go through countless plays to create my final game”. His winning board game, “Burglar”, requires team work and cooperation between family members to keep the burglar out and their family intact. This mirrors real life situation where all family members must put in effort to build a strong, happy family.
