Street soccer and Fuzionball Tournaments were among the activities organised at the Moulmein-Kallang GRC and Whampoa SMC Sports Carnival on 15 July 2012. The sports carnival also featured a fun telematch called ‘Giant Yong Tau Hu Challenge’ which residents and grassroots advisers participated in.
“The street soccer games and telematches really raised the excitement of the event to another notch. My friends and I are glad we came because we had so much fun,” said an enthusiastic participant, 20-year-old Mr Jayvan Bay.
Residents also took part in various other activities such as life-sized table futsal, ‘Human Soccer Challenge’ and ‘Giant Sticky Wall’. The various sports Interest Groups also showcased their skills and invited residents to try their hands at the sports showcased. The Singapore National Games mascot for the cluster, Nila, made a special appearance at the event and residents eagerly took photos with it.
The One Connect @Moulmein-Kallang, a concerted initiative by the Moulmein-Kallang cluster Taskforce for Private Estates, was also officially launched at the sports carnival. Residents with maintenance concerns can now contact the One Connect @Moulmein-Kallang hotline at 6470 1204 to have them addressed.
The Neighbourhood Committee (NC) taskforce would also be organising activities to better engage private estates residents. The Goldhill NC Ukulele Group, formed by private estate residents was one such example. The Group wowed residents with a medley of enchanting pieces at the Sports Carnival and many residents expressed interest in joining the Group. “With the launch of One Connect @ Moulmein-Kallang, the taskforce hopes to be the catalyst for new ideas on how to better develop social capital in our private estates and be the springboard to bring greater volunteering opportunities to our private estate residents”, remarked Chairman of the Moulmein-Kallang NC Taskforce for Private Estates, Dr Selan Sayampanathan, PBM.
