The new People’s Association (PA) headquarters (HQ) located at 9 King George’s Avenue was officially opened on Friday, 29 Jan, by the Chairman of PA, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The opening ceremony also marked the first of a series of events that would take place throughout 2010 to commemorate PA’s 50th Anniversary.
About 1,000 guests including grassroots Advisers, grassroots leaders, and community partners attended the event. They were entertained by the Thomson Jazz Band and caught a sneak preview of some Chingay Parade floats and a very special musical - Fried Rice Paradise, that would be staged in August 2010.
At the event, PM Lee also opened the PA Heritage Gallery. Located at the atrium of the new building, the Heritage Gallery showcases PA’s contributions to nation -building and growth over the years, alongside Singapore’s development.
Mr Tan Boon Huat, Chief Executive Director of the People’s Association said, "Over the last 50 years, the People’s Association (PA) has played an important role in bringing people of all backgrounds together to promote racial harmony and social cohesion, and serve as a bridge between the government and the people. It has built trust among Singaporeans such that whatever threat we face, we Singaporeans will stand united to meet these challenges.
The new building brings all our HQ officers under one roof. This allows us to work more closely together to achieve our mission of building and bridging communities in achieving One people, One Singapore."
