The inaugural Singapore National Games 2012 (SNG) was launched on 26 November 2011, at the sidelines of the Singapore River Regatta 2011. Jointly organised by the People’s Association (PA) and its grassroots organisations, Singapore Sports Council (SSC) as well as the National Sports Associations (NSA) of the 10 sports which will be part of the SNG, the SNG is a new biennial sports festival that will bridge community participation and sports excellence and offer residents from all ages, races and estates the opportunity to be part of Singapore’s exciting sporting landscape!
Residents can look forward to participating in the following ten different sports at SNG 2012: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Dragon Boat, Football, Netball, Sepak Takraw, Swimming and Table Tennis.
The annual Community Games (CG) will serve as the qualifying round for the SNG in the years when it is held. Registration for the CG will open in January 2012.
Teams will be formed according to geographical clusters based on community groupings. Participation is open to Singapore Citizens as well as non-Citizens. National athletes are also eligible to compete. However as a guide, national athletes and non-citizens may only make up at most 20% of the team size.
The various team mix requirements and formats are aimed at encouraging wide participation from all age groups and races, as well as residents living in both public and private estates. More sports enthusiasts with different abilities will also be able to be part of this nation-wide competition.
For more information on the CG and SNG 2012, you may visit the PA Community Sports Club website or the Singapore Sports Council website or call the Hotline at Tel: 62382058 during office hours (9am to 6pm) from Monday to Friday.
