The Singapore Night Race 2011

Bishan Community Club (CC) was a hive of activity from 22 to 25 September 2011, as the Formula 1 fever hit the heartlands. More than 1,000 residents came down to Bishan CC over the four days to participate in the array of activities that had been specially organised, together with the ‘LIVE’ High Definition (HD) screening of all the races and practice sessions. Ranging from meet and greet sessions with Team Lotus drivers and their owner Tan Sri Tony Fernandes to a mini carnival with racing video games and a live band, there were activities to keep residents of all ages occupied. Residents were also able to view motor car exhibits and take photos with Grid Girls.
The organising team was very encouraged by the response from residents. Said Jason Tan, Chairman of the organising committee for the event, “The atmosphere at the event was very exciting, especially during the final two days. The organising team put in a lot of effort and we are glad that the event served as a great platform for family bonding. Many residents came with their families and participated in the various fringe activities.”
Many residents felt that the ‘LIVE’ screening was a good effort to introduce what many Singaporean perceived to be a ‘niche’ sport to the heartlands. 40-year-old Pauline Tay, one of the spectators, shared, “this ‘LIVE’ screening is definitely something new and we should try to find new ways to introduce this sport to other Singaporeans”.
Over at Pasir Ris Elias CC, besides the screening of the races, there was also a demonstration of remote control cars and trucks where members as young as six years old showed their racing skills. Chairman of Pasir Elias CC Management Committee (CCMC) Mr Syed Ahmad said, “We are happy to bring this ‘LIVE’ screening to residents as it’s a great avenue to bring residents with common interests together. At the same time, we are glad to showcase our racing interest group and invite interested residents to join. We look forward to organising more of such events for our residents”.
The ‘LIVE’ screening of the Singapore Night Race was also held at another 18 CCs.
