Youth

The PA recognises the importance of getting a good start in life, and we have the tools and channels to help you express yourself in your community. We know you have something to say, ideas to contribute and activities you want to participate in. So whether you are looking to quench your thirst for adventure, or develop your potential in sports, or fulfil your quest for knowledge, PA has a wide-range of youth programmes and activities for you.

PAYM Programmes

The People's Association Youth Movement (PAYM), the largest youth organisation in Singapore, offers fresh initiatives to meet the needs of youths today, regardless of race, language or religion.

We are attuned to the ever-changing youth patterns by extending our outreach to youths through our community service projects, lifeskills and adventure camps, sports events and grassroots events.

PAYM also initiates projects to involve schools in promoting comprehension of national issues and epidemic situations. Amongst them are activities organised to promote racial harmony and to instil elements of national education.

The PAYM implements new initiatives and sustains meaningful programmes that reflect the voices of youths in our communities.

NYC Programmes

The National Youth Council (NYC) a division of the People's Association, was set up on 1 November 1989 as the national co-ordinating body for youth affairs in Singapore. As the Advocate, Connector and Enabler for youths, NYC has many youth initiatives and programmes that promote youth engagement, leadership and service. These include Young ChangeMakers, the Youth Expedition Project, the National Youth Forum, the SHINE Youth Festival, Prime Minister's Dialogue and many other international exchange programmes. Together with our partners, NYC develops a vibrant and supportive environment for youths to realise their dreams.

NYC is also the administering body for the Singapore Youth Award, Outstanding Youth in Education Award, and is the liaison body with ASEAN and international organisations on youth development. For more about NYC and its programmes, visit www.nyc.pa.gov.sg.

OBS Programmes

Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) is Singapore’s leading organisation offering outdoor education and adventure learning programmes to help people realise their full potential.

We offer specially-designed programmes for students from Primary to Tertiary level and working youths. Our programmes are physically and mentally challenging, utilising the outdoors to develop character, as well as mental and physical ruggedness.

Our Character and Leadership Programmes offer youths a purposeful outdoor experiential experience. This is delivered through personal reflection and facilitated group discussions in a fun and guided environment. These life skills complement lessons taught in school and are relevant to workplaces to provide a holistic learning experience.

Through the international Outward Bound network, OBS also offers exciting overseas experiences, specially tailored for students as well as young working executives. From experiences of climbing mountains, tackling river rapids or trekking through knee-deep snow, our courses instill an adventurous spirit and an enterprising approach in an unfamiliar and culturally different environment. Given the potential life lessons gained, it is definitely more than just your average overseas holiday trip.

In addition, we have special programmes for at-risk youths who come from community-based organisations such as gazetted homes and Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs); as well as youths who may have physical and/or intellectual challenges and disabilities. In line with Outward Bound's philosophy - "Your disability is your opportunity", we customise programmes for these profiles of youths to help them overcome their innate weakness and develop their hidden potential.
