Community Activities

Many local-level racial harmony programmes are organised by the grassroots organisations to raise the level of understanding amongst neighbours of different races. In recent years, more focus has been given to programmes that encourage community participation to deepen inter-racial understanding among residents. Some of the efforts include bringing residents from various races and ethnic groups together to develop and organise racial harmony programmes.

The PA organises many programmes to showcase and celebrate Singapore’s rich multi-cultural heritage. Here are some of them.

Soundwaves

Soundwaves is PA’s signature concert that celebrates racial harmony and promotes local talents in Singapore. At the heart of the annual concert is the performance by the PA Talents, with 10 performing units and more than 300 musicians and dancers. The concert often brings together the biggest names in the industry. Performers who have been featured in previous Soundwaves include Dick Lee, Jeremy and Claressa Monteiro, George Chan, Eunice Olsen, Brian Richmond and many others.

PA Talents Season

The PA Talents Season is a series of concerts that feature different ethnic music and dance groups, showcasing the diversity of Singapore’s cultures to a multi-ethnic audience. Visit the PA Talents Facebook Page for more information.

Gentarasa

Gentarasa, which means "Chimes of Expression", was established in 2002 as a signature cultural initiative to celebrate and promote Malay arts and culture in Singapore's diverse society. This annual showcase brings together talented performers, offering them a prestigious platform to present traditional and contemporary Malay performing arts.

Through captivating performances of dance and music, Gentarasa serves as a bridge connecting generations while preserving the Malay arts form. The programme not only nurtures artistic excellence within the community but also strengthens cultural understanding among Singaporeans of all backgrounds.

Chingay

Fireworks explode over a colorful, crowded stage at night with vibrant lights and numerous performers entertaining the audience.

The annual street procession brings diverse groups of people together and showcases the rich multi-cultural diversity of our society, through a parade of exciting performances and colourful floats. Visit the Chingay for more information.

HarmonyWorks! Conference by OnePeople.sg

OnePeople.sg’s HarmonyWorks! Conference is one of our signature youth-driven initiative which explores key trends and issues of race relations in Singapore. This annual youth conference provides a platform for youths to speak and share their thoughts and gather insights on pertinent issues concerning race and religious relations.

Established in 1997 as Central Singapore Joint Social Service Centre, OnePeople.sg (OPSG)was repositioned and launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in 2007 to champion racial harmony initiatives in Singapore. Since inception, OPSG has played an instrumental role promoting harmony through a range of programmes including community dialogues, learning journeys, training workshops, and resource development. OPSG also works closely with various religious organisations, community partners, government agencies and individuals to strengthen racial harmony and social cohesion in Singapore.
