Neighbourhood Kakis
First piloted in 2024, the Neighbourhood Kakis initiative enables seniors to become active community contributors.
First piloted in 2024, the Neighbourhood Kakis initiative is an innovative approach to community building that empowers senior residents aged 50 and above to become active community contributors through their contributions in “Neighbourhood Tasks”. The initiative encourages participants to form micro-communities based on shared interests and skills, such as frail-elderly visitation groups providing cheer to isolated seniors, community packing and distribution of meals to vulnerable families, or reading groups providing literacy support to neighbourhood children. The initiative advances PA’s refreshed mission to Spark and Nurture Community Participation for a Caring and United Singapore .
The initiative fulfils three complementary purposes:
Strengthen Community Participation: Transitioning seniors from participants and consumers to active contributors within the community
Community Enhancement: Supporting essential community operations by tapping into the expertise, experiences and dedication of senior residents
Active Ageing: Enabling seniors to remain engaged, socially connected and mentally stimulated whilst contributing meaningfully to the community
