Chingay Parade 2019 - A performance by PAYM

Chingay 2019 – Singapore’s uniquely multicultural street and float extravaganza – enters its 47th year with the theme “Dreams Funtasia (Bicentennial Edition)”. In commemoration of Singapore Bicentennial, the performances will encapsulate the unlimited imagination of what Singaporeans can achieve and what Singapore can become in the next 200 years.

This year, the parade will be held on Friday, 15 February 2019 and Saturday, 16 February 2019 at the F1 Pit Building.  The open space behind the Singapore Flyer will also be transformed into a whimsical wonderland for the Chingay Carnival, which opens from 15 February 2019 to 17 February 2019, 3pm to 10pm.

Here are some highlights you can look forward to at Chingay 2019:

  • The debut of the first-of-its-kind 270m painting

Co-created by three local multi-disciplinary artists, this 270m by 7m long painting illustrates the history of Singapore that dates back to 200 years and before, as a humble fishing village; to the present-day modern, progressive multi-ethnic country; to the limitless imagination of our dreams and aspirations for the future.

Singaporeans and residents from all walks of life have also left their fingerprints on this painting to symbolise their commitment and determination to work together towards the next 200 years.

The painting will open the parade as a meaningful gift from the community to Singapore for this milestone year.  The three artists, together with six budding ones, will put the finishing touches to the painting ‘live’ during the parade.

  • “Dream Catchers” – A myriad of exhilarating acts by performance groups

As we come together to celebrate our pursuit of our dreams and passions in life, this year’s parade will feature performances from a diverse representation of cultural and interest groups.

Traditional Chinese-skilled performers will be challenging themselves with more electrifying performances such as acrobatic stunts by stilt walkers and freestyle lions on high poles, and a 49m LED giant flying balloon dragon that is making its debut at the parade.

They will be joined by other modern-skilled interest groups such as cheerleaders, unicyclists, rhythmic gymnasts and LED Kites enthusiasts, all gearing up to show off their tricks and stunts to the Chingay audience.

Chingay 2019 - KF1 Go Karts

Get ready to catch riders on different vehicles - such as Go-Karts, Harley Davidson bikes, Vintage cars and Vespa sidecars - as they wow the audience with speed and style.  This year’s parade features the largest participation by the Karting community as they form a contingent with 30 karts. They will be accompanied by Team Singapore athletes and a life-size Formula car mounted on the top of a 28-metres long float.

  • Free Access to Chingay 2019 Carnival

Spanning across 3 days from Fri, 15 February to Sunday, 17 February, the carnival is perfect for a family day out. Explore the different zones for family-friendly activities, Instagram-worthy art installations and a variety of food and drink options.

On Sunday, the F1 race track will turn into a huge adventure playground with games and giveaways. Come by to win attractive prizes and end the night with a movie under the stars!
